Installing a Mitisubishi Mr. Slim Air Con, difficult?

Air conditioning, fans, and anything related to keeping it cool, such as insulation. This would include any posts generally discussing how to keep it cool, such as which types of blocks are better insulators.... ideal wall thickness for keeping an A/C house cool, etc.

Installing a Mitisubishi Mr. Slim Air Con, difficult?

Postby MattFS218 » Sun Oct 12, 2008 8:46 am

I purchased a Mitisubishi Electric Mr. Slim air conditioning unit for my girlfriends house in Isan. I have the unit here, but am wondering how difficult it is to install. Can I do it myself? Is there anything I should look out for? Thanks.

I am assuming you are describing a standard aircon system comprising the exterior mounted compressor, and a wall mounted interior distributor.Unless the unit was purchased in a discount warehouse or in a clearance sale, installation, brackets, and other fittings are included in the price. DIY installation is not possiblea as special equipment is required for filling the unit with gas, and balancing the pressure. A correctly rated breaker must be installed in the fuse box and the aircon unit run from a dedicated circuit, and properly earthed. The pipes must be lagged and encased in plastic sheathing which is generally only available from a specialist aircon supplier.

In my opinion, in view of the low cost of professional installation, it's best left to the specialists, and it's not worth trying to do it yourself which could engender all kinds of problems.
