Seeding a hand dug well

image dsc20518.jpgHere is a shot of a hand dug well to 7 meters. One of the most important parts of the well digging process is the care in which the well is sealed after the cement fittings are inserted. Here you see small stones being used around the well. This helps prevent an air cavity from forming on the outside of the fittings, which can cause water pressure and cement fitting breakage – resulting in dirty muddy water.
I would highly recommend you watch this phase of the well digging process. One other note: the well shaft here is much too wide for the fittings, a sign of inexperienced well diggers. Ideally the dug shaft should be no larger than about 2 centimeters wider than the cement fittings.
