New Build - Doi Saket Chiang Mai

Postby smiley486 » Sun Feb 07, 2016 1:27 pm

Hi all,
I've been following many building stories over the past year and really impressed with some of the stories. Now we are building ourselves in the district Doi Saket in Chiang Mai.

The build started last week.
I've attached pictures our article made for the design of the house.

Living space approximately 320 sqm.
Our land total is approximately 5 rai.

The cost we are paying is approximately 12500 baht / sqm.

Hi - A very interesting design. Do you have floor plans yet? I would be interested to know what you are doing in those high rooms. Are you planning for mezzanines?
Cheers

Plans have already been finalized. Will upload picture as soon as I get the digital version from the architect :)

The house is primarily 1 storey. The left tall building is the only 2 storey area where downstairs will be used as a studio and upstairs will be used as a small office overlooking the rice fields and view of the mountains.

Here are updated pictures we received last week with the land being prepared.
We are flying to Chiang Mai this week (from Bangkok) as they will be putting the first pole down and will have a small ceremony for this occasion.

Whereabouts relative to Doi Saket town are you? Five rai suggests out a little bit ... some very nice country around there.

Hope it all goes well for you [in the year of the Monkey :) ] when does your contractor suggest he will finish? First build in LOS? That's you not the contractor ... hopefully

About 5-10 mins drive from Doi Saket town.
First build in LOS so hopefully all goes well and that picture isn't me unfortunately haha.
Contracter has put timeline of finishing in 7-8 months so August finish if all goes well.

I hope the electricity will be reliable in this district although I heard that there are common outages during strong storms.

Three metre deep posts are unusual and many engineers might insist on piles; depending on local conditions one might hope.

Be interesting to know who made the decision for those very deep posts and what was that decision was based upon.

I guess it was the engineer who made the decision as we didn't have a say on this. The max height of the house is about 6 metres, which could a reason for this.

Smiley-
Did you fill the site at some point? The dirt at the bottom of the pier hole looks to be a different color...maybe they dug through the fill to get to original soil?

Builders adjusted the land abit with new soil on top.

Here's also some new updated photos sent from the engineer. Looks like everything is moving quite nicely.

Looks like you got a good team working on it.. An engineer who sends drone-pictures on the progress. That's a first here on CTH I guess..

But, is it the lens-distortion or is the land higher than the surroundings? Especially on the right side with the buildings there..

If higher, then I can imagine the deep foundations are related to that.

Looking forward to see this build progressing.. Good luck.
