Chang Rai earthquake

Postby Sometimewoodworker » Mon May 05, 2014 9:06 pm

I've just seen that there was a quite substantial earth quake (6.1) today. I hope none of our member was effected by it.

There seems to be quite a bit of property damage.

Shook your place in Mae Taeng, was in the sala over the garage with me dogs and all four of them started barking. Worst one I can remember but that isn't saying much. No damage that I can see.

Significant rumble in Maejo also ... Chiang Rai area and apparently the strongest ever recorded with an epicentre in Thailand.

Hopefully not a southerly trend as the previous on that fault-line was in the Myanmar border area.

MGV... Yeah, that southward trend is a bit worrisome. Quite surprising to see the number of aftershocks. That plate is moving!

Maybe they should build future hospitals with AAC blocks :) viewtopic.php?f=41&t=3675&start=30

That at least is reassuring :) are you sure the installers removed the transit bolts?

The science says that it didn't make it that far, to Bangkok that is.

Is Bangkok over 400 kilometres from the epicentre? Of course it is, hence the quake did not register in Bangkok..... unless you want to believe social media.
Would you like me to post the science? :D

Not in the mood you are currently in!

According to those who don't know it's now been relegated to a 4.9.

We did feel a rumble on the northern outskirts of CM city but I would find it hard to believe that it would register as any worse than passing traffic in BKK.

Social Media? What's that when it's at home?

MGV12,
How dare you say that. Both the Bangkok Post and The Nation write all their factual stories from using the social media and they are all true. Thaksin died of cancer (the Nation) 3 years ago. There was no coup to topple him, it was an uprising of the people (Bangkok Post)....need I go on? All those slipping plates (just one) and all those people who poo pooed my over-engineering my house are now thinking it might not have been such a bad idea after all.
I'd love to see the structral damage done to the hospitals. If it was where the columns and beams meet I would suggest they get the patients out now.... but who am I to overrule their committee, sub-committee and investigatative panels who are going to take months, if not years to make some sort of dicision.

MGV12,
Your quake is up to 6.3 in the Bangkok Post, they must have received a social media report from someone in the know.
