Site demographics

I wanted to ask what, generally, is the demographic of members of this site?

I don't know whether I'm unusual in being a youngish dad of a young UK/Thai family. Is it more or less correct that most members are, how can I put this, probably a bit older than me? Coming to TL after many years of work perhaps for a change of lifestyle, or even retirement?
How many of you have been in TL for ages and are fluent/literate in Thai?

I ask because perhaps it might mean that your route into settling and self-building in TL is probably significantly different from mine, and the things that affect your angle.

E.g.: my mrs and I are at the start of our working lives, "asset free", and contemplating a first mortgage in TL; and her parents are still alive, which affects our options and things we have to factor in.
I'm sure there are others like us, but I'm yet to meet any.

I am 34 and very soon i'll become a daddy. My partner Noi is 32, her parents still alive, we are building on their land and they will live in the new house while waiting for their own as soon as we got more money to do that.. with swimming pool.

I don't speak really good thai.. and cannot read a line.. such a shame but for now I didn't lived here yet.
Noi has an english master degree from chiang mai university, and speak and read french almost perfectly !

When this site was put on-line 5 years ago (after the building of our first house) I was mid-forties/wife was mid twenties. (now early 50/30). Met several CTH members at the time, the expats mostly around the same age or a bit older. Nice to have some younger lads on-board

About the same age difference for me thirty-two years, but she is catching up fast. First came to Thailand twenty-one years ago and have lived here for eleven years. In that time we have built a house, a duplex, and two major renos on the property we are now in.

First time came to Thailand was 10 years ago, 24 years old that time, I meet my partner the year after and we are living in Bordeaux, France, since 8 years now...We rent our house in europe and not much on the bank account, but my parents gave me the money to build something in thailand for us, so they can come when they want, to enjoy free time now they are retired and spend time with noi's parents here ! and enjoy country style living !

Maybe in 10 years I'll exchange my wife of 40 for 2 youngs 20 years old !!! who knows.... ^^^this is a famous joke i couldn't miss

All you old codgers sare making me, 60, feel really young . Perhaps living in Thailand for the last 10 years has slowed down the aging process.

BTW, for anyone considering attempting to take out a mortgage in Thailand to build a house: would you apply for a mortgage to buy a car in Europe?
