Wood floor coating

Postby Baht Man » Wed Sep 19, 2012 2:16 pm

I built a smallish (5m x 5m) lanai built over a fishing pond with a wood floor made of 1x8 inch planks, parts of which will be exposed to the the sun and possibly rain.

What would you suggest as a good finish to apply to the floor that would be long lasting and require little maintenance?

I’m not into the “over the top” high gloss finishes the locals like, but would prefer more natural finish.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions....

I've used Tung oil quite a bit back in the US.
Hard to find in udon and small tins are quite expensive.

I was thinking of just using a clear stain with c=some kind of sealer.

Thanks

Nawty used tung oil a bit on his place one of the benifits is also one of the drawbacks its toxic ?
Apparently historically used on boats it prevents rot
The toxins ? (ok if you dont eat it ) poison the vermin that try and eat your wood out from under you
Given its a product of Thailand you might be able to get a decent price if you look around in uk they include it in certain woodstains very expensive there
my comments may be wrong but never deliberately
If it aint broke, dont fix it
