Attaching wire etc to solid concrete . HOW ?

Postby koastal » Tue Nov 23, 2010 11:39 am

Hi,
I am about to start a chain link fence and whilst I can nail/staple it to the wooden posts that will be in the ground, every so often I need to attach it to some 200 x 200 solid concrete posts that I have had placed on my boundary. I am also going to run a flat cap along the top of it and this will be easily nailed to the tops of the wooden posts but again will terminate and start every so often on the concrete posts. Plus i then need to hang some basic steel gates for car / pedestrian access off the concrete posts. We do not have access to fancy hardware or tools here in Cambodia but I can get a generator out there with power tools. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

thanks

If you have no hammer drilling machine...or even power....then just clamp it to the 20/20 square columns!

i think its the german version of crimpin'

i would get some angle iron and bolt that to the concrete and then use bolts with large washers to attach the fence to the other angle on the iron. :?

splitlid,
that will definitely work- thanks for taking the time on that ! :D

HOWEVER !

I would need to a) set up both sides of each concrete post and b)over time it would rust out so on both counts I am not sure how aesthetic it would be !?

The only other thing I can think of is dynabolting a piece of flat timber to the post and using that as the anchor...........

Hi,
Yup thats exactly what I had in mind ! Well done. :D

In a lucid moment I had another idea which was helped along with a few cold beers.I can simple wire the mesh to the concrete posts and then I can get the boys in to render bush rock over the top of it !!

I meant that in case you could not get power, or even you have power no power tool....you could use clamps...another word would be brace...

With the right tools it's an easy task...just sometimes not so easy to get the right anchors in Thailand....don't know in Cambodia?
For such low force connections in concrete I prefer hammer anchors....just drill the right hole...put in the anchor...take the screw and hammer it in...finish!

Another method that also works well where you are limited with power and tool availability is to use a 'Construction Adhesive' to stick a wood block to your concrete posts and then fix to them as you will be for the wooden posts. Those who have never used such a product often doubt it's ability to hold firm and take the weather ... it would astound them to know the high demand applications such as aerospace, aeronautics, nautical, automotive, skyscrapers etc etc where such products are used in applications where lives are at stake. I am sure you can find them in Cambodia ... you should go for the 'Professional' quality and a well known brand name; as cheap Chinese copies may not be up to the job.

Here is a link to an example in case these products are new to you:

this thread has shown that there are always different solutions for the same problem.which is good.
a 'details' section wouldnt be a bad idea? :)
