Painting Cement

Postby altman » Tue May 13, 2008 1:57 pm

Have the house mostly done and now need to paint it.

All exterior and interior walls are finished cement.

Do I need to 'seal' this before painting? What kind/brand of paint do others recommend?

There is a different primer used for 'old' vs 'new' cement, make sure you get the right one. SuperShield and TOA Shield-1 are good brands, with the TOA being a bit less expensive.

For the inside you will normally want a good quality semi gloss which can be cleaned (ie. wiped down), such as SuperShield Duraclean or TOA Shield-1 (which has a semi gloss for the interior and also one that can't be wiped).

The Duraclean is the most expensive, 19 liter size was recently 2600, with the TOA at 1200 for the semi gloss (the semi gloss comes in the 10 liter size).
