External painting of the walls and eave lining, plus internal painting to the ceiling, is all but complete.

Plus the clowns also painted my PVC guttering to match the fascia board. Not sure if that was a good idea and not sure what it looks like close up? Anyway from a distance it looks OK

Now for the start of the Kitchen wall tiles.

They actually have a little more color/pattern in them than I envisaged. Lets see how it looks when the whole wall is finished

Looks like he has the tile set out, about right

One more day and the kitchen wall tiling should be finished :D . Have tidied up the steel supports under the bench top, did the cut out for the sink and completed the recesses for the cook tops

Next stage in February-March, is to
Install the ceiling fans, lights & A/C
Lay the floor tiles
Install the granite bench top (March)
Install Exhaust Hoods, Cook Tops and Sink (March)

The Island Bench & Cabinet design, along with the Windows/Doors, will be the last thing I do in May

And the wall tiling is done and the place clean and tidy for a day

Opps, I am missing one power point in the corner above the bench. It was there when they roughed in the electrics. Oh well, just have to forget it.

Opps missing one power point under the bench for the Sink Disposal Unit, now hidden behind the tile??

Nice work! I like the big tile on the walls. Looks great.

you indicated "granite bench top" earlier. I was wondering, what price you were quoted for the granite counter tops?

Hi Alan and I choose the Tan Brown granite (Polished). Having seen the way Thai's cut up and cook, I figured that a Corian/Formica top would last many years, so opted to go with something more impact resistant and less likely to score

So far I just got a verbal quote from Boonthavorn which was TB 4,300 per square meter, for the bench top slabs cut to size. Max available length 2.50 meters x approx 0.65m width.

The TB 4,300 per m2, excludes the cost of the cut out for the cook tops & for the sink and also exclude the cost of a beveled edge along one edge

I will have a better idea when I am back in February and give the drawings of each piece, showing cut outs and bevel

There is another small granite shop on the road heading up to Nong Khai (Wanghin Granite). They have a web page of some sorts. I have been there once and they do have a reasonable selection.

Wow! Does that include a backsplash?

I need about 28m2 of granite, so it's going to hurt my wallet!

Hi Alan and "No Splashback", its not in my design

Do you need 28 m2 for your bench top or floor?

If you buy Granite as a standard tile size of say around 800 x 400 mm or maybe 900 x 600 mm, it can be somewhat cheaper per m2 than my TB 4,300 per m2, but then again the price also depends on the color and or where they import it from?? Some comes from Norway and Brazil (more expensive) and some comes from India and China, arguably a bit cheaper.

They simply jack up the price on their labels when you ask for something different, like "cut to size" on non standard tile size

Here are some pictures with the price labels on them for standard tiles sizes, that I took, when at the shop in December,

Tan Brown it says TB 928 per 40cm x 80cm which equates to TB 2,900 per m2 (From India)
Ruby Red it says TB 1,248 per 40cm x 80cm which equates to TB 3,900 per m2 (From India)
Lavender Blue it says TB 960 per 40cm x 80cm which equates to TB 3,000 per m2
Blue Pearl Light it says TB 1,408 per 40cm x 80cm which equates to TB 4,400 per m2 (From Norway)
Blue Pearl it says TB 1,728 per 40cm x 80cm which equates to TB 5,400 per m2 (From Norway)

Good luck with finding what you want

Hi Alan

There was a time when I liked and was thinking of going for a White Benchtop, so I obtained a quote from a Company in Bangkok for White "Silver River" Granite

For standard tile size 30 x 60 cm rate was TB 3,250 per m2, then
For Non Standard 60 x 60 cm the rate increased to TB 6,850 per m2, then for
Cut to Size rate climbed to TB 7,500 per m2, for up to a 3.5m long length

Fortunately the TG liked the Tan Brown color when we went to Boonthavorn. So now I just have to change the kitchen color scheme of the floor and cabinets, to make it work with the Tan Brown benchtop, which I am more than happy to do, rather than pay TB 7,500 per m2.

PiP, Sorry I gave you the wrong amount. I was thinking it seemed quite high so after recalculating and subtracting the appliances, I think I only need about 10-12m2 of granite. (including kitchen Island) Now my wallet is happier.
Thanks for all the info and prices. It could be up to 6 months before we have to decide.
