valley repairIf there is one critical area of any house project which can go oh so wrong in so many ways — it is the roofing. The ubiquitous Thai construction crew is fairly skilled in many aspects of construction, but one common shortcoming is in roof construction. As it turned out here, the roof valleys were done totally inadequately. If you think about it, roof valleys would often not come up in up-country construction, where houses commonly have no roof valleys. In future projects (if I knew then what I know now), I would definitely farm out the roofing to a company which specialized in them. (more…)

Steel Roof Sheeting as an Alternative to Tile

from Humphrey H Great website,well done on finishing the house. I wonder why you went for tiles on the roof instead of steel sheeting. Steel is cheap,light,permanent and most importantly-secure. It is too easy to remove tiles to gain entry to the roof space. I loved the shots of the butchered front door,mortice locks are not difficult to fit,normally. Thai tradesmen are improving, do they use power tools yet? (more…)

There are several constraints

a) must be >20 degrees b) should be < 60 degrees

Shallow pitch = Less area/tiles (less cost) Greater load on rafters, must be thicker or more numerous ,(more cost) Tile placement more stable an unaffected by wind

Steep pitch = 50% more tiles (more cost) Less load on rafters (less cost) Less stable tile placement (more…)

Just have a question and hope you can be of some help.

I am looking at renovating the roof on my mother in law’s house up near Udon Thani. My wife says that they want to use roof sheeting rather than tile. Any ideas on cost per m2? (more…)
